I collaborated with soil scientist Dr Simon Hutchinson and air scientist Sophie Haslett to creatively explore the impact on our environment from the stuff we buy and use.
Part of a participatory arts project in collaboration with artist Àgata Alcañiz, we worked with a range of scientists to discover the stories behind the products we use. Workshops with the community took place in East Salford April to July 2015. We collaborated with participants, artists and scientists to explore the relationship between climate change using earth, water, air and fire.
For ‘Soil Ghosts’ we visited and explored sites in Salford to take soil samples and discover what their constituents revealed about Salford’s industrial history
We used the Munsell Chart to explore different soil types
We brought soil samples from our gardens and outdoor spaces to find out if it was safe to grow food in. We then grew pea shoots in the soil and discussed the importance of healthy soil.
